distracted by the thistle flower

The weeds appear and choke out some seeds, yielding no fruit at harvest:

Mark 4:18-19 ESV
[18] And others are the ones sown among thorns. They are those who hear the word, [19] but the cares of the world and the deceitfulness of riches and the desires for other things enter in and choke the word, and it proves unfruitful.

Watch out for the full grown thistle, a sowed weed by the enemy. The blooms catch the eye but it has no place in with the full crop. They will be cut down at harvest, bound and tossed into her fire.

Matthew 13:25-26 ESV
[25] but while his men were sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat and went away. [26] So when the plants came up and bore grain, then the weeds appeared also.

Sometimes we don't see the weeds. They blend in for a short bit but then the take shape. The weeds can be sorted from the wheat by the blade of the reaper - the grain will be stored safely in the barn while thistles are bundled and tossed into the fire.

Colossians 3:5-6 ESV
[5] Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. [6] On account of these the wrath of God is coming.
